AbstractIn this article, new multilevel configurations of 2L-Y boost DC-DC converters (2L-Y MBC) with high voltage conversion ratio are proposed for renewable energy applications. To step-up the voltage with high conversion ratio, four new configurations 2L-L MBC, 2L-2L MBC, 2L-2LC MBC, and 2L-2LCm MBC are designed by combining the features of voltage multiplier with existing 2L-Y configurations of XY family (2L-L, 2L-2L, 2L-2LC, and 2L-2LCm). All the topologies are suitable for applications where low to high voltage conversion is necessary such as, photovoltaic (PV) system, fuel-cell system, hybrid vehicle, HVDC, and DC drives etc. Moreover, the proposed configurations are highly suitable for utility grid via multilevel inverter (MLI) due to a stack of multiple capacitors at the output side. The background, modes of operation of proposed 2L-2LCm MBC configuration is explained in detail with the mathematical analysis of voltage conversion ratio. All the proposed configurations are compared with each other in terms of voltage conversion ratio. The proposed work is validated through numerical simulation and obtained results are perfectly matched with the theoretical analysis. - 2019 IEEE.
