AbstractWe explore the role of statistics for Big Data analysis arising from the emerging field of Data-Centric Engineering. Using examples related to sensor-instrumented bridges, we highlight a number of issues and challenges. These are broadly categorised as relating to uncertainty, latent-structure modelling, and the synthesis of statistical models and abstract physical models. - 2018 Elsevier B.V.
